October Gallery

Free and open to families of all ages.

Please note: this event is first come first served and when we are at capacity, we have a one in one out policy.

 

Family Art Day offers the opportunity to explore the October Gallery with your family when the Gallery is usually closed to the public.

​

Suitable for all ages, families are invited to create their very own artworks in this workshop is inspired by the Gallery's Fashion & Fortune exhibition. ​In this workshop led by artist-facilitator Tyreis Holder​, participants will focus on process and self-expression rather than producing a finished or perfect object. Participants are encouraged to experiment with the tactile nature of wrapping, twisting and layering materials.

 

The workshop draws inspiration from the themes within the exhibition: ideas of adornment, transformation, identity and fashion as sculptural expression. We will also explore sustainable making through the use of recycled and donated textiles!

Families at the October Gallery 

​

OG Education takes a playful and exploratory approach to family learning by creating imaginative sessions to engage with October Gallery’s current exhibitions. We are committed to creating high quality creative engagements that are inclusive, accessible and free. Currently our sessions run on the second Saturday of the month.

​

We encourage families to explore the gallery and exhibition through many art making activities. Families get a chance to work with various artist educators and members of our OG Youth Collective exploring materials and techniques they may not have tried before in the beautiful gallery setting.

Our family sessions are FREE and open to children of all ages from 10am-12pm and families can stay as long as they like.
