Creative Professional Development
About October Gallery Education's Teacher Training Programme
October Gallery Education offers a programme of training for teachers, youth workers and art educators that is rooted in creative practice, cultural awareness and material exploration. Our sessions draw on the gallery’s international network of artists and our long-standing commitment to global perspectives in art education.
Alongside practical making, we explore approaches to teaching that centre empathy, anti-racist practice and the lived experiences of young people. Much of the training is shaped by our ongoing work with the OG Youth Collective and by the gallery’s deep connections to artists from across Africa, the diaspora and the Global South. This includes sessions that reflect on the Black experience, sensory learning, and the role of art in shaping community and identity.
We offer exhibition based in-gallery sessions, as well as bespoke CPD workshops for school departments, teacher training providers, and education teams. INSET day workshops and after-school training can be booked on request.
We also host special events in response to current themes and conversations in the sector, bringing together artists, lecturers and creative professionals to share their practice and open up dialogue.

The Poetics of Healing — Textiles as Language and Intuitive Practice
Tyreis Holder is an artist, poet and visual storyteller whose practice explores textiles, poetry, identity and intuitive making. Taking inspiration from Sokari Douglas Camp’s current exhibition, Fortune and Fashion, this practical CPD session will explore textiles as language through creative discussion and hands-on weaving.
Tyreis will share their practice and lead a practical activity exploring textiles, poetry and identity. The session is suitable for artists, educators, volunteers and anyone interested in creative, reflective approaches to working with groups.
