9th October - 29th November
'Go Back and Pick' is an exhibition delivered in two parts at the October Gallery and Goodman Gallery London. The exhibition unveils the work of El Anatsui, who is widely regarded as one of the most influential contemporary artists working today. These wooden sculptures reflect his evolving sculptural practice, centred around the wider historical context of post-Independence Ghana.
Our school workshops will respond to Sankofa, an Akan word and gesture as well as an Adinkra symbol that loosely translates to 'go back and get it'. Working with artist educator Amy Leung, the sessions will build on the Sankofa themes that reflect on learning from past knowledge in the present to build a stronger future. Students will have a chance to explore ways of making with textures and the use of colours in their practice.
