October Gallery is delighted to present Journey to the Heart of Light, the fifth solo exhibition of works by Nepalese artist Govinda Sah ‘Azad’. These new works reflect the artist's personal journey connecting the diverse Margate and Himalayan landscapes through the atmospheric clouds that envelop them, which upon parting reveal dynamic views illuminated by shafts of light below. For Sah, the practice of layering paints on the canvas is a meditative act that allows him to ponder on the enigmas and complexities of life.
The Education workshops will encourage students to explore how to create textures in their artwork through unusual materials. As Sah focuses on the changing qualities of light, inspired by the work of J. M. W. Turner, the sessions will reinforce colour theory and the association of intangible or emotional ideas with different colours. Through mixed media painting, students will explore their imagination and forms of personal expression.
